America The Beautiful

Happy Memorial Day, a couple of days late!

It's been a busy week at work and I haven't had time to update the blog.

I made this card for a friend who just returned home from Afghanistan. I was so happy that he returned safe and sound.

When making this card it brought back memories of a friend who was lost in Iraq a few years ago. He was a great guy and I miss him always. If only he were here for me to send this card to him. I keep a part of him with me always, a group of us had memorial patches made up and it is proudly displayed on an item that I use often. I may have to rework this card with the word HERO and send to his parents. He passed away on June 6th of 2006, so seeing as it is coming up on the anniversary of his death I have been thinking of him a lot more.

So let all the current and past service members know that you appreciate all that they do, if it weren't for them we would not have the freedoms that we have now.

Oh Baby, Baby

A coworker of mine gave birth to a bouncing baby boy a couple of nights ago, so I decided to make a card for her. I went with the larger size so there was plenty of room for everyone at work to sign it.

I don't have any children of my own, so I don't have any funny stories to share that go along with this baby card. So instead I'll comment on the upcoming weekend kicking off the summer. (It does kind of tie into, the birth). I was supposed to be working this coming weekend, Memorial Weekend, but since I filled in this past weekend, and will be filling in the following weekend, my boss graciously asked if I would like to take it off. I agreed and started hunting something fun to do. I settled on camping at Carolina Beach. The north end of the shore has a great place for 4 wheel drive vehicles to pull out on and set up camp. Then two days ago I got the call from Cristena telling me that she had her baby over night, I was super happy for her, but I feared my weekend to kick off the summer was over before it even started. But luckily we have enough people scheduled, so I won't be missed.

I found out today that we will be spending the day out on a boat, possibly deep sea fishing. So I'll have to make a fishy card to go along with that story. Then in the late afternoon we'll head out to the beach and prepare to camp. I have a love hate relationship with camping at the beach. Love: the ocean, the breeze, the sounds and the smell. Hate: The sun coming up early in the morning turning my tent into somewhat of an OVEN. So there is no way to sleep late on the beach, much like trying to sleep late with a new born baby (another tie in to the card).

Anyway I hope this card brings a smile to Cristena's face. Everyone at work can't wait to meet the new addition.

Stamps: So Many Scallops
Paper: Bashful Blue, Barely Banana, Plaid DP
Ink: Bliss Blue, Summer Sun

Wasted away again in Margaritaville

It has been years since I've seen Jimmy Buffet in concert, and I am envious of my friends who have tickets for a couple of his shows in North Carolina. Oh well maybe next year.

I have been working on finalizing my summer travel plans. This summer is my last hurra for a couple of years, I start school in August, and will have summer classes through 2010 UGH!

So with a couple of trips up to Virginia, a few trips to the beach, camping in Ohio, hanging out at a lake in Kentucky, and a visit to the North Carolina mountains, it is going to be a busy summer. So when am I going to be able to stamp? I don't know, but I do know that I will be having a few drinks, margaritas included, on these adventures. I have some wonderful friends and they will keep me entertained, with or without stamping. I do plan on hitting Marco's Paper in Dayton while I am up there. I did warn my friends that I would be spending the better part of a day there, the rest of the week, I am all theirs :)

I am hoping to take a travel stamping kit with me while I am gone on all of my adventures, but I am not sure how much time I will really get to create. But I will try. So in the meantime I will be working my butt off trying to get a lot of cards created, I sell some of my cards at a local coffee shop. I don't want them to run out while I am off galavanting.

She's My Cherry Pie

A Happy Hello to everyone out there in "Blog Land" this is my first post for my new Rubber Stamping blog. And what a great card for me to start out with.

Summer is fast approaching and there are fruit stands popping up all over the place. I can't wait for some fresh strawberries, blueberries, peaches & watermelon!

I just became a Stampin' Up demonstrator. And I am really looking forward to my first workshop coming up in a couple of weeks. I began stamping almost 10 years ago with my older sister, we "accidentally" found a stamp store while we were out at yard sales one Saturday morning. One look around and we were both hooked. I worked at a rubber stamp/scrapbooking store a few years ago, and when it closed I discovered Stampin' Up, and I fell in love all over again. I love the fact that their stamps come in sets, so I never have to look for something to "go with" something else. And their paper, ink & accessories come in the same colors, so coordinating is easy!

I had a short hiatus the last couple of years, my supplies had been in storage until I decided to make my Christmas cards this past year. I only made 10 or so, but it was enough to get me back into the swing of things, and I am so excited I did.

SO WELCOME TO MY HAPPY PLACE! I am hoping to have daily updates, but it's starting out to be a busy summer, but I'll do as much as I can :)
